2012 Dog Licenses
You may renew your dog’s license by mail or in person at the Rollin Township Hall (P.O. Box 296; Manitou Beach, MI 49253), beginning December 1, 2011, or at the Lenawee County Treasurer’s Office (301 N. Main St.; Adrian, MI 49221 (Old Courthouse Bldg.). Licenses will be available in the township until October 31, 2012 and year-round in Adrian.
For licenses purchased from Rollin Township, checks need to be made out to "Rollin Township". (NOTE: This fee cannot be combined with the winter tax payment amount on one check.) Checks for licenses purchased in Adrian should be made payable to the "Lenawee County Treasurer".
NOTE: Licenses for dogs that have never been licensed must be obtained in person.
A current rabies certificate (or a copy) must be presented every year. Licenses will not be renewed without the Rabies Certificate.
If ordering by mail, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope.
Cost of License: Dec. 1- February 29th- $10.00
On or after Mar. 1 - $20.00 (Licenses for dogs 4 months old or less will be $10. after March 1st)
Animal Control Regulations
Taken from the Animal Control Ordinance adopted by Lenawee County in May 1976, and Rollin Township in October, 1986.
Owner Defined- Any person who keeps or harbors any dog or has it in his care or who permits any dog to remain about any premises owned or occupied by him shall be deemed the owner of such dog.
Number of Dogs Allowed- It shall be unlawful for any person to own, possess, shelter, keep or harbor more than three dogs over six months of age at any time in one residential building, garage, etc.
Dogs to be Leashed- It is unlawful for the owner of any dog to allow such a dog to go beyond the premises of the owner unless the dog is held securely on a leash not more than eight (8) feet in length and held at all times by some person over the age of seven (7) years.
Barking Dogs- It is unlawful for any person to own a dog which by loud and frequent barking, howling, growling or any other noise, causes annoyance to the people of the neighborhood. (If any dog destroys property or trespasses in a damaging way on the private property of persons other than the owner, the owner of said dog shall be legally liable.)
Vicious Dogs- It is unlawful for any person to own a fierce or vicious dog. Any dog shall be deemed vicious which has bitten a person or domestic animal without provocation.
Penalties for Violations- Any person violating any provision of these ordinances shall be guilty or a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not exceeding One Hundred ($100.00) Dollars and costs of a prosecution or by imprisonment not exceeding ninety (90) days or by such fine and imprisonment.
